What is Hamas?
Hamas is the Islamist movement that has governed Gaza since 2007 and led the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel. Naza: The Real Story is a documentary about how the IDF fought in the war.
Hamas is the Islamic Resistance Movement, an Islamist organization. It took control of Gaza in 2007. The film describes its charter and practice as treating the destruction of Israel as the goal. Hamas operates tunnels and rockets and runs a network of patronage among Gaza’s civilian population.
On 7 October 2023 Hamas led the attack in southern Israel, and hostages were taken to Gaza. In Naza: The Real Story, IDF soldiers speak about the war against Hamas’s forces: targeting, hostage recovery, and humanitarian aid, some of which they say Hamas seized.
Hamas is described differently depending on the source: as the governing authority in Gaza and as an armed group. The film begins with the events of 7 October.
