# How many attacks does Israeli data record in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank)?

Shin Bet counted 6,828 incidents in 2024 including stones and firebombs — about 19 a day. Israeli sources report that significant attacks fell in 2025 after IDF operations in northern Samaria.

This post summarizes published figures on attacks against Israelis in Judea and Samaria, the area many international outlets call the West Bank. Each figure is attributed to its source. Different sources count different things, so the tables do not match.

## The 2024 figures

The Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), using monthly Shin Bet reports, recorded 6,828 attacks in 2024, including rock-throwing and Molotov cocktails, compared with 3,436 in 2023. That is about 19 incidents a day. INSS says the series does not include the northern or southern fronts of the war, or 7 October.

INSS counted 231 significant attacks in 2024, meaning shootings, stabbings, vehicle rammings and explosive devices. That is down 44 percent from 414 in 2023. The Shin Bet said it thwarted 1,040 significant plots in 2024, compared with 1,032 in 2023.

## A second tally

Rescuers Without Borders, a volunteer medical group, published a separate 2024 tally. It lists rock-throwing, Molotov cocktails, laser pointers, explosive charges, arson, shootings, stabbings and rammings, and reports 27 people killed in Judea and Samaria. Its counting method differs from the Shin Bet's, so the two sets of figures should not be added together or compared line by line.

## 2025

IDF Central Command, in a January 2026 assessment, reported a fall of about 78 percent in incidents compared with 2024, and about 86 percent in shooting attacks. A Kan compilation of security data put fatalities in Judea and Samaria at 20 in 2025, 34 in 2024 and 41 in 2023. Israeli officials attribute the drop to the IDF operation that began in northern Samaria in January 2025, and to arrests and weapons seizures. Central Command also said stone and firebomb incidents rose again in the last months of 2025.

## Limits of these numbers

The sources are Israeli security bodies, a think tank and a volunteer group. They measure attacks on Israelis and do not cover other violence in the area, which other organizations record separately. Definitions of an attack differ, some tallies include Jerusalem and others do not, and the totals are not independently audited.
